12.0 TZM / LEL Relationship

OVERVIEW

The local or regional Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL) is a key partner for the TZM. The LEL provides the TZM a direct connection to the law enforcement network.

LELs are available to their TZM for questions about TZM duties related to law enforcement agencies in their region. The LEL is a leader within the local task force. The LEL has a strong knowledge of traffic-related matters and serves as a resource to the TZM on the enforcement aspects of traffic safety.

WHAT AN LEL CAN DO TO SUPPORT A TZM

  • Rally the law enforcement network to participate in HVE campaigns
  • Handle media inquiries for the TZM when the media wants to speak with law enforcement
  • Contact officers who are not performing to HVE standards and review HVE expectations
  • Contact agencies regarding discrepancies on activity logs or on HVE-related personnel issues
  • Support the TZM on projects and activities as available

LEL LIMITATIONS

The work of an LEL makes up only a small portion of his or her total work responsibilities. In requesting support or involvement from an LEL, the TZM should assume the lead role in any project and only task the LEL with as much work or responsibility as can fit into the LEL's schedule.

STATEWIDE LEL

WTSC supports local LELs with a statewide LEL. The statewide LEL provides guidance for local LELs. The statewide LEL can also be a resource for TZMs on statewide issues that the local LEL may not be aware of.

The statewide LEL can provide support to the local LEL and TZM on planning and coordinating dedication patrols and acknowledging regional top performers in HVE patrols.
