5.0 Strategic Plan
OVERVIEW
A strategic plan is a document used to communicate the goals and planned strategies to achieve the goals set by a Task Force. The strategic plan helps to focus the efforts of the Task Force and TZM in working toward the overarching goal of Target Zero.
CORE ELEMENTS OF A STRATEGIC PLAN
A strategic plan should contain enough information to be useful to a TZM in guiding the activities of a Task Force, but not so much information that it becomes cumbersome. The key is that it meets the needs of the Task Force. The length and content vary among regional strategic plans, dependent on the needs of each region. The sample strategic plans below range in length from one page to eight pages.
At its core, a strategic plan should identify goals of the Task Force and the actions to achieve the goals. A sound approach to developing a Task Force strategic plan may be built around the following questions:
What is the current state of the Task Force?
What do we want to achieve as a Task Force?
How do we plan to achieve these goals?
The final result of strategic planning should result in a document that is useful for the Task Force in developing future plans and as a reference to confirm that the Task Force is achieving its goals.
SAMPLE STRATEGIC PLANS
The following strategic plans are included as a reference. No single plan is intended to represent an official model for a Task Force strategic plan, but all are intended to be a resource when developing or updating a strategic plan.
